This change is hard to miss. A new sustainable packaging concept has replaced our standard packaging for all three series in the range. Not only does the packaging look and feel good, it’s also certified.
The packaging box is made from FSC Mix-certified corrugated cardboard, which is known for its sturdiness. At least 85% of the cardboard is made from recycled waste paper and only a small amount of energy is required for its manufacture.
In line with our aspiration for plastic-free packaging, we are now using ecological bags. Although they look like plastic, they are actually made of renewable raw materials and are biodegradable. These new bags are made of cornstarch, which is obtained from the residual material leftover from food production, e.g., potato skins.
For our packaging we use corn, wheat or potato starch-based glue, or a combination of the three. Starch glue has a low viscosity but can still be applied evenly over the entire width of the corrugating machine with modern gluing units. Ergo, less is more.
To make the packaging easier to recycle and thus even more environmentally friendly, we have scaled back to use just a single-colour print process with water-based ink instead of environmentally harmful UV colour.
To ensure that everything in the box remains securely in place, each of our products has a special inlay system. A corrugated cardboard inlay provides stable support and ideal protection during transport.
When it comes to sustainability, we work with certified partners and certified materials. In the future, all our suppliers and service providers will have to be on board with our environmentally friendly packaging concept ➞ we are investing in it.
Sustainability – our principles
We reassess our goals for environmental and climate protection, as well as for resource efficiency, every year. Our comprehensive management system, implemented under the watchful eye of our environmental officer, provides the strategic and organisational foundation for this. In line with our definition of sustainability, everyone across all departments at KLUDI works hard to achieve these goals.
We are committed to the ‘Three Rs’. Specifically, this means that we want to avoid adding to environmental pollution wherever possible. Where this is technically impossible, however, we strive to minimise our environmental footprint. Reusing and recycling raw materials, as well as efficiently using resources, materials and energy is standard practice for us in our manufacturing processes.
We take our responsibility for the safety of our employees and people living near our production facilities very seriously. As a result, our plants – especially in environmentally-sensitive areas like our electroplating department – have been adhering to strict safety standards for years. Internal specialists and external experts audit compliance on a regular basis.
Sustainability – part of our quality promise
The lifespan of a product has a major impact on its environmental footprint. That is why we focus on ensuring that our fittings offer outstanding quality, design, functionality and reliability, as these factors influence their durability. We also experiment with new materials: for example, we are trialling an extremely robust and 100% recyclable aluminium alloy.
GERMAN QUALITY
We believe that ‘Water in Perfection’ means treating water as the precious resource that it is. Our products feature special technologies that do just that, for example the Eco s-pointer aerator, which reduces the flow rate to 6 l/min without any adverse effect on comfort. Another example is the sensor technology in our electronic fittings, which only turns on the water flow when it is really needed.
By the way, sustainable water use affects more than just the water bill. A lower flow rate generally means less hot water, so less heating energy is used, too. Our thermostats, sensor fittings and the KLUDI EcoPlus feature further enhance the energy efficiency of our products.

REACH Regulation
In the REACH Regulation, the European Union regulates the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals. REACH stands for "Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals". The REACH Regulation entered into force on 1 June 2007.
In principle, REACH applies to all chemical substances, i.e. not only those used in industrial processes, but also those found in everyday life, for example in cleaning agents, paints/lacquers and products such as clothing, furniture and electrical appliances. Therefore, the regulation has an impact on most businesses across the EU.
To comply with the regulation, companies must identify and manage the risks posed by substances used in production. This applies in particular to all products manufactured or sold in the EU. KLUDI must ensure that substances are used safely and that customers are informed about SVHC substances >1%.
As KLUDI does not manufacture chemical substances or mixtures and therefore does not import them into the EU, we are only affected by REACH as a so-called "Downstream User".
For this purpose, we are in close contact with our suppliers, who we regularly enquire and who inform us about SVHC substances in their production.
Substances of very high concern, according to the candidate list published by ECHA, are not contained in our products - with the following exceptions - in concentrates above 0.1 % per substance and article.

SCIP database & SCIP numbers
Since January 2021, companies placing articles containing so-called SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) of the REACH Candidate List on the market in the EU are obliged to submit information on these articles to ECHA's electronic database (SCIP database). Specifically, this concerns articles manufactured, distributed or imported into the EU that contain SVHC substances with a concentration above 0.1% by mass.
The SCIP database is intended to help disposers to identify hazardous substances in articles and to dispose of them properly.
In the Excel Liste you can identify Kludi articles containing SVHC substances and use the corresponding SCIP number.
