“Acknowledgement of our philosophy of innovation”

Kludi wins the German Innovation Award 2019

“The German Innovation Award does not simply honour any innovations. Rather, it honours those that have demonstrated added value for their users. Even when it comes to the details of an overall solution, the focus must be on radical user-centricity and therefore, on people,” is how the German Design Council describes the definition of innovation it uses as the foundation for awarding its German Innovation Award. 695 products from domestic and international manufacturers competed against each other for the award in 2019, the second year of the competition’s existence. This year’s winners also include Kludi GmbH & Co. KG (www.kludi.com) with its headquarters in Menden, Germany. The independent jury of experts named Kludi’s Cockpit Discovery shower system, which just had its world premiere in mid-March at the international ISH trade fair for sanitary, heating and plumbing, as the winner in the “Excellence in Business to Consumer” category – an award given by the jury just ten times in the “Heating and Bathroom” category in 2019.

Focusing on user benefits
“Of course we are thrilled to receive this award,” announced Christoph Reiß, Head of Marketing at the Sauerland-based fittings specialist, at the awards ceremony in Berlin. “Because this validates our approach of placing a particular focus on the benefit for the user when developing our solutions – our goal is to make life a bit simpler, a bit more pleasant and a bit safer for people.” The award-winning Kludi Cockpit Discovery shower system is all about making it easier and more convenient to use for every one of its users, independent of age or physical ability. “In keeping with the motto: ‘Innovation is all about simplicity’, we reduced its operation to the essentials: controlling the water flow and temperature,” explained Mr. Reiß. “At the same time, we positioned the two controls conveniently within view and easy to reach for the users.” Ergonomic tests showed that tilting them at a 40° angle additionally improves handling and operability. The height of the controls is optimised in such a way that younger users or users with mobility issues can easily reach them as well. The controls are deliberately designed to be large so that they fit your hand perfectly, providing a secure grip.

It is no surprise that the jury of the German Innovation Awards emphasized how the special operating concept facilitates “barrier-free access and ease of use” when giving the reasons behind their choice. In addition to judging the benefits for the users, the jury also rated the submitted products according to additional criteria such as the degree of innovation, cost effectiveness, sustainability aspects, quality and functionality.
